MEET THE TEAM: Val Agnew

Writer's picture: TridentTrident

In our "Meet the Team" series we've asked each of our advisory board and founding team members a series of questions so you can get to know them.

Today, we'd like to introduce Val Agnew, Trident's Founder and Executive Producer.

Here's what she had to say:

Hi friends. I'm Val. I'm a Chicago based filmmaker, comedian, and small business consultant. I'm just so pumped you're here and hope you enjoy all that Trident has to offer :)

What's something you've been reading/watching/listening to lately that you're loving?

Ooh boy I have gone DEEP into the Star Wars canon in the last year. My husband and I watched both cartoon series together and have each been working our way through the novels. I love Ahsoka Tano so much and am glad she's getting new life soon for mainstream audiences.

What is something you're working on right now (or recently) that you're really pumped about?

I mean the biggest thing IS Trident. And I am supremely pumped about it. I can't believe all the amazing people who are already involved and how much progress we've made toward our goals of making it as easy and streamlined as possible to get one's work made and into the the world. I am constantly pinching myself that people believe in this and want to be involved. I just hope I can help Trident live up to all its promise.

Any new pandemmy hobbies?

TENNIS! I've been playing so much tennis. I even got the shoes and the racket and the bag and the whole kit. I'm very official.

What made you want to get involved with Trident?

I'll tweak this question to 'why did I hope Trident would become real?' And the answer is that it was very important to me to try to create a place that made it as easy as possible for people to share their creativity with folks and for people to find that work and enjoy it. AND to build a welcoming and supportive community both amongst creators and between them and their fans that didn't require physical proximity.

What are you most excited about when it comes to Trident?

Nothing makes me happier than when someone says "I've been thinking about this idea for ages and I didn't know what to do with it." and Trident being able to make that idea into something tangible. Especially when other people in the community step up to help aid in making an idea a reality. It's really remarkable how much people at Trident have already exemplified the culture of holding each other up and reveling in each other's successes.

What is something you wish more people knew about you? A fun fact or secret talent?

If we've met (or if we haven't) I want to be your friend. I love friends. I always want to be friends. I'm very thirsty for friends.

Anything else you'd like us to know?

I'm allergic to red wine. Just in case you were thinking of getting me a gift.

You can enjoy Val's podcast, DCOMmentaries, on all major podcast platforms. She also runs tech for The Tenn & Peller Improv Comedy Half Hour every other Thursday on Twitch. And she can be found most Mondays at noon (CDT) doing crafts during TV Guide Day on Trident's Twitch.
